Higurashi no Naku Koro ni takes place in a rural village called Hinamizawa in June 1983. Keiichi Maebara recently moved in, and he befriended four classmates: Rena Ryugu, Mion Sonozaki, Satoko Hojo, and Rika Furude. Keiichi thought of Hinamizawa as a peaceful place, until he heard from the other villagers that when the annual Watangashi-festival is held, a person ends up getting murdered and another ends up missing. Keiichi learns that these murders and and disappearances has to do with the local deity god, known as Oyashiro-sama. Keiichi gets paranoid about this, and a crime is actually committed (mainly involved by the murder of his friends). But the truth slowly reveals itself on the mysteries of Hinamizawa.
